NJBankers & Others Fight Hunger at Community FoodBank of NJ

The New Jersey Bankers Association (NJBankers), along with State Senator Joseph Cryan and volunteers from Valley Bank brought holiday cheer to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey’s (CFBNJ) Hillside headquarters this past Wednesday in an effort to raise awareness of and combat food insecurity in New Jersey.

“Fighting hunger in New Jersey remains a top priority of mine in the Legislature,” Cryan said. “I applaud the partnership between the Community Food Bank of New Jersey and the NJBankers. Both organizations continue to demonstrate a strong commitment in their time and treasure to combat what is an unfortunate reality for many in our communities.”

During the holiday event, NJBankers provided breakfast for more than 100 of CFBNJ’s employees, and volunteers from Valley Bank sorted and packed food in the FoodBank’s warehouse.

According to CFBNJ, more than 725,000 people in New Jersey face hunger every day and more than 175,000 of them are children. CFBNJ also estimates that $1 can provide three meals to those in need.In September 2022, NJBankers launched the 1 Million Meals Campaign, a commitment made by the association and its members to donate one million meals over the next five years to CFBNJ. To date, with the support of NJBankers’ members, more than 380,000 meals have been donated along with 4,000 volunteer hours.

“Making a difference in our communities is one of the primary missions of NJBankers, and we are both pleased and honored to collaborate with the Community FoodBank of New Jersey,” said NJBankers President & CEO Mike Affuso. “Through our partnership, we aim to raise awareness among our members and the communities they serve about the incredible work being done here every day.”
