Ranked 44th in the nation, the Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital has the added distinction of being the first hospital in New Jersey to be ranked in any Best Children’s Hospitals specialty.

“We are proud to once again be recognized by U.S. News & World Report,” said Robert C. Garrett, president and chief executive officer of the Hackensack University Health Network. “I would like to commend Dr. Jeffrey R. Boscamp, HackensackUMC vice president and chief academic officer and chairman and physician-in-chief of the Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital; Maureen Keating, vice president of the Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital; Dr. Arno Fried, chairman and director of the Neuroscience Institute; Dr. Stephen Thompson, chief of Pediatric Neurology; and our entire team for collectively demonstrating the skill and dedication required of a national healthcare leader.”

The rankings recognize the 50 best-performing hospitals in 10 pediatric specialties. Updated annually in June, the areas of specialty are: cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery, neonatology, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology, and urology.

Eleven groups of pediatric medical experts are convened annually to review the methodology. This year marked some changes in the methodology, arising from clinically-grounded recommendations submitted by these groups. Changes in the 2014-15 overall rankings included evaluating outcomes, best practices and infection prevention.

“Our team at the Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital remains committed to delivering the highest level of patient- and family-centered care,” said Dr. Boscamp. “We will continue to provide world-class treatment in the most compassionate environment for each of our pediatric patients, and we are proud of the recognition our Neurology and Neurosurgery team has received.”
