Jeffrey S. Beenstock has been named managing partner of Ballard Spahr’s New Jersey office, firm Chair Mark Stewart announced.
Beenstock, who has been with Ballard Spahr’s New Jersey office since 1999, has nearly 25 years of experience representing businesses, real estate investors, developers, and lenders, as well as public sector agencies, in a variety of transactions and projects. He succeeds John B. Kearney, a well-known litigator who retired in December. Located in Cherry Hill, Ballard Spahr’s New Jersey office, now in its 26th year, is home to attorneys who are recognized leaders in complex commercial litigation as well as labor and employment, real estate, environmental, bankruptcy, and public finance matters.
As a key strategic location in Ballard Spahr’s national platform, the New Jersey office serves clients in industries ranging from automotive, energy, and manufacturing to financial services, gaming, and higher education. The Cherry Hill-based litigation practice was named large-firm Litigation Department of the Year in 2016 by the New Jersey Law Journal. The firm’s nationally recognized products liability practice also is based in the New Jersey office.
“Jeff is ideally suited to take the lead in shaping our future in New Jersey and building on our record of excellence in service to clients there,” Stewart said. “He is an outstanding lawyer, seasoned manager, and dedicated public servant with deep roots in the community.”
Beenstock served more than six years on the Council of the Township of Medford, a community of approximately 23,000 residents in southern New Jersey, and concluded his most recent four-year term on December 31, 2017. Additionally, he served as Deputy Mayor in 2015 and Mayor in 2016, under Medford’s Council-Manager form of government, in which the Mayor and Deputy Mayor are elected from the Council. In addition to serving as Office Managing Partner in New Jersey, Beenstock is a member of Ballard Spahr’s Expanded Board, a group of senior lawyers that helps set firm practice and policy.
“Ballard Spahr has a long history in New Jersey, and I have a long history with Ballard Spahr,” Beenstock said. “I’m honored to lead the New Jersey office and excited about our prospects for continued success and growth. New Jersey is unique, and we know it well because our New Jersey lawyers live, work, and raise families here. We have very fine lawyers, and a reach that is not only statewide, but national. We handle the toughest cases and most challenging deals across industries and practices—throughout New Jersey, regionally, and as part of Ballard Spahr’s strong national platform.”
Pro bono and community service are Ballard Spahr hallmarks, and attorneys and staff in the New Jersey office support a variety of organizations, individuals, and causes. The New Jersey office marked its 25th anniversary last year by establishing an ongoing partnership with LUCY (Lifting Up Camden’s Youth) Outreach, a nonprofit youth services organization based in Camden, one of the nation’s poorest cities. Ballard Spahr has worked with LUCY to provide higher education scholarships, a mentorship program, and resources for community service projects. Among numerous other pro bono engagements, attorneys in the Cherry Hill office have represented the Burlington County affiliate of Habitat for Humanity for more than a decade.
Ballard Spahr is known for its commitment to diversity and inclusion in the firm and the legal profession. In keeping with this commitment, the New Jersey office supports minority law student organizations and offers a Diversity Fellowship for first-year law students.
