University Medical Center of Princeton (UMCP) received a three-year, full accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) following a rigorous evaluation and a recent on-site survey that noted zero deficiencies.
The NAPBC accreditation covers the full spectrum of care provided at UMCP and the UMCP Breast Health Center in East Windsor, from diagnostic services to the most advanced cancer treatments. Administered by the American College of Surgeons, the NAPBC is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to improving the quality of care and monitoring of outcomes for patients with diseases of the breast.
UMCP, which first earned NAPBC accreditation in 2011, is one of only 22 accredited breast care centers in New Jersey.
Rachel P. Dultz, MD, FACS, Medical Director of the UMCP Breast Health Center and a member of the board of directors for Susan G. Komen® Central and South Jersey, said NAPBC accreditation signifies comprehensive, high-quality care.
“We provide our patients with every advantage right here, close to home,” said Dr. Dultz, a board certified surgeon and fellowship-trained breast surgical specialist. “Our patients have access to a full range of state-of-the-art services, as well as information about new treatment options and ongoing clinical trials, and we use a multidisciplinary team approach to coordinate the best treatment option for each individual.”
Patients at UMCP and the Breast Health Center receive care from an expert team of medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, and surgeons, including fellowship-trained breast surgeons. Available services include digital screening and diagnostic mammography; ultrasound-guided and stereotactic biopsies; MRI-guided biopsy; genetic counseling and testing; and certified breast health navigators. These specially trained nurses provide one-on-one support and skilled guidance, from diagnosis through treatment, for patients diagnosed with breast cancer.
The Breast Health Center also has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology.
Breast care at UMCP and the Breast Health Center is guided by a multidisciplinary leadership committee. Members include Dr. Dultz; Christopher Ananian, MD, Medical Director of Imaging at the Breast Health Center; physicians representing various specialties, including Edward M. Soffen, MD, radiation oncology, Thomas R. Blom, MD, medical oncology, and Thamarai Saminathan, MD, pathology; James Demetriades, Vice President, Operations, Princeton HealthCare System (PHCS); Peggy DeFalco, Director of Diagnostic Services, PHCS; Linda Conroy, Manager of Diagnostic Services, PHCS; Mary Kiensicki, RN, CBCN, Breast Health Navigator at the Breast Health Center; and Debbie Millar, Director, PHCS Community Education & Outreach.
