When demand for its educational services and an overall expansion mode brought 76 new students to Princeton Charter School – a free K-8 public school that has been providing Princeton families with an educational choice for their children since 1997 – some students were at first displaced into trailer-style classrooms.
That scenario has since been remedied: A $5.6 million, 8,028-square-foot addition, which commenced construction in November 2020 and was completed in early 2022, includes two new fourth-grade classrooms, two new fifth-grade classrooms, and an expanded cafeteria. Of the project’s $5.6 million cost, approximately $1 million was used for stormwater-related site remediation; monies were obtained via Princeton Charter School’s operating budget. Meanwhile, the school hired five new full-time equivalent employees to meet student population and facility needs.
Among the most highly rated public schools in New Jersey, Princeton Charter School fosters a top-tier educational experience for Princeton Borough students and has experienced so much demand that it has never been necessary for it to enroll students from surrounding municipalities.
