Reviving an R&D Landmark: Eisai Inc. Headquarters

When pharmaceutical giant Eisai Inc. moved its US headquarters to the ON3 Campus in the Nutley-Clifton area, it brought 800 jobs, and – at full capacity – the 15-story, 332,800-square-foot facility will accommodate 1,300 employees.

Citing the campus’ proximity to New York City and Newark Liberty International Airport and its easy access for those coming from within and beyond the Tri-State area, Eisai sought to create a new space for collaboration and innovation at this important pharmaceutical and R&D landmark (formerly Roche’s headquarters).

The Eisai US hhceco Center includes an expansive cafeteria, café bars, huddle spaces, an auditorium, and the hhc (human health care) innovation center forum to hear from patients, advocacy partners and the community.

Meanwhile, Eisai has established relationships with many New Jersey advocacy organizations, including those focused on oncology and neurology (two key treatment areas for Eisai), such as the Bergen Volunteer Medical Initiative and Epilepsy Services of New Jersey.

Existing collaborations and development of important new relationships can also happen more broadly, such as with ON3 Campus neighbors, which include Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine, Seton Hall College of Nursing and School of Health and Medical Sciences, Quest Diagnostics, and Hackensack Meridian Health Center for Discovery and Innovation. When considering the global research and development work done by Eisai, this forms a well-situated locus of potential innovation.
