One of only 32 polytechnic universities nationally, New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) plays a critical role in innovating and shaping New Jersey’s and the nation’s future through its fourfold mission of research, teaching, economic development and public service. 

NJIT conducts approximately $140 million in research annually through more than 70 specialized research institutes, centers and labs. These are organized into four research clusters:

  • life sciences and engineering
  • sustainable systems
  • data science and information technology
  • a broad transdisciplinary category created to address problems such as intelligent transportation systems resilience and point-of-care healthcare devices
  • #1 nationally, according to Forbes, for student upward economic mobility
  • 11,400 STUDENTS in 50 bachelor’s, 59 master’s and 19 doctoral degree programs
  • 330 U.S. PATENTS and patents pending 
  • $400 MILLION campus construction and renovation projects 
    • 220,000 sq. ft. Wellness and Events Center
