JCP&L: Energizing New Jersey

Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L), a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp., is committed to providing safe, reliable and affordable power to 1.1 million residential and commercial business customers in 236 municipalities throughout New Jersey.

Over the past 10 years JCP&L has invested more than $2.5 billion on enhancing its electric system which includes more than $247 million on distribution, transmission and other projects designed to enhance service reliability and strengthen its electric system in 2015. This ongoing infrastructure investment helped the company post its best reliability numbers in 13 years, which included an 18 percent reduction in the number of outages customers experienced the previous year.

Just as customers have come to expect more bandwidth and faster speeds from internet providers, they are also expecting more from their electric companies. It’s JCP&L’s responsibility to make sure every customer has the power they need when they need it. Recognizing what it takes to meet this increased demand, JCP&L has made transmission investment an important part of its efforts to meet the future energy needs of customers.

Through the “Energizing the Future” program, the company is investing more than $193 million in 2016 on new transmission lines, substation expansions and other related improvements that also will help make its system more resilient to future storms.

JCP&L is dedicated to maintaining strong lines of communication with customers, community leaders, safety officials and employees. These efforts encompass all facets of web-based communications, including Twitter, Facebook, JCP&L’s mobile website and a free smart phone app. JCP&L’s website also features a 24/7 Power Center with an interactive map that provides updates on outages, crew status and restoration time.

The company is receiving strong recognition for these and other achievements. JCP&L was named “Business Leadership of the Year Honoree” by the New Jersey Conference of Mayors (NJCM) for its continuing efforts to establish strong working relationships with mayors across its service area. And, for its work in the community, the company also received the Commerce and Industry Association’s “Champions of Good Work” trophy earlier this year.
