New Jersey Society of CPAs Names Edward Guttenplan President

Edward I. Guttenplan, CPA, CGMA, MBA, managing shareholder at Wilkin & Guttenplan, P.C., has been named president of the New Jersey Society of CPAs (NJCPA).

Guttenplan will also begin serving as a member of the Finance Committee and a trustee of the NJCPA Education Foundation. In addition, he will serve as the chairperson of the Retirement Savings Plan Committee, a trustee of the NJCPA Scholarship Fund and a member of the Student Programs & Scholarships Committee.

“We are extremely proud to have Ed serving as our new president. He brings a wealth of knowledge, energy and commitment to the organization and the future of the profession,” said Ralph Albert Thomas, CGMA, CEO and executive director of the NJCPA.

Guttenplan has dedicated more than three decades of service to the NJCPA, beginning in 1982. Through his role on the Board of Trustees, he has served as trustee, secretary and president-elect for the organization. He is a past member of the Retirement Savings Plan Committee, and has served as a member of the Cooperation with Bankers Interest Group, a Scholarship Fund trustee, a member of the Student Program and Scholarship Committee and a member of the Strategic Planning Committee. In 2004/05 he won the NJCPA Leadership Award, and in 2013 he was an NJCPA 50 Over 50 award recipient.

Guttenplan also has extensive experience with serving his local NJCPA chapter, and has held the positions of president, secretary and treasurer of the Middlesex/Somerset Chapter.

In the community, Guttenplan has also been active, having served as commissioner and vice chair of the Highland Park Redevelopment Agency and chair of Main Street Highland Park. He was also president of the Highland Park Conservative Temple Congregation Anshe Emeth, Central New Jersey Jewish Home for the Aged/Wilf Campus and Solomon Schechter Day School of Raritan Valley, as well as a board member of the Jewish Federation in the Heart of New Jersey. Mr. Guttenplan’s dedication to community associations has led to numerous awards from the Community Association Institute, where he was also inducted into their Hall of Fame.

Guttenplan earned both his B.S. in business administration and his MBA from Boston University. He and his wife, Bonnie, reside in Highland Park, and have three children and one granddaughter.
