Leadership Change at Casino Reinvestment Development Authority

The Casino Reinvestment Development Authority announces that Executive Director John Palmieri will be leaving the Authority effective December 31, 2016.  Mr. Palmieri joined the CRDA in October of 2011 and since that time, the Authority advanced over $1.0 billion of redevelopment initiatives and project investments in the Atlantic City Tourism District.

Under his leadership, CRDA has or will soon deliver to visitors of Atlantic City attractions such as the Bass Pro Shops at The Walk, new restaurants, clubs and conference centers, and the addition of the Observation Wheel coming in 2017.  He oversaw the launch of the new non-profit MeetAC to promote convention, business conference and sporting events coming to the resort.  Additionally, the creation of the beach concert series delivered hundreds of thousands of new visitors, filled our hotel rooms and brought Atlantic City worldwide positive publicity.  Mr. Palmieri also led the Authority’s successful consolidation of the Atlantic City Convention and Visitors Authority, and establishment of one of the largest special improvement districts in the country, as part of the CRDA’s clean and safe initiatives under the Tourism District Act.

In the community, John oversaw many valuable initiatives, including the provision of safe and clean services through the Special Improvement District, the relocation of John Brooks Recovery Center, the paving of Pacific Avenue, new Boardwalk lighting, and a state of the art communications system for the Atlantic City Police Department.  John has unequivocally left the City and State in a better place as a result of his service.

Acting Chairman Robert Mulcahy stated, “John Palmieri has been instrumental in advancing the Authority’s mission since the enactment of the Tourism District Act.  His expertise and leadership will be missed.  We wish him the best in his future endeavors.”

The Authority also announced that current Deputy Executive Director Chris Howard will succeed Mr. Palmieri as Executive Director.
