William H. Connolly & Co., LLC, one of the region’s foremost providers of insurance brokerage and risk management services, is pleased to announce that John Degnan, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, has been appointed to serve in an outside director capacity as a strategic consultant to WHC’s Healthcare Risk Services practice.
Degnan was appointed by Governor Chris Christie in 2014 to chair the Port Authority and to lead its governance reform in the aftermath of the scandals which had occurred at the Agency. He has served as Attorney General of New Jersey, partner in a major law firm, Shanley & Fisher, and on numerous State Supreme Court Committees. For 20 years he served in a variety of positions at the Chubb Corporation, always overseeing its legal, claims and administrative departments culminating in his appointment as its Chief Operating Officer in 2008; he has also served on the board or as Chairman of the Chartered Property & Casualty Underwriters and was a member of the Federal Advisory Commission on Insurance.
Healthcare is an integral and vital part of the regional‐national economy, with opportunities and challenges that call for wide spectrum expertise. Mergers and acquisitions, in particular, present significant opportunities for optimization through strategic planning, capital efficiency, and operational excellence. Being able to draw on Mr. Degnan’s experience and ‘satellite view’ knowledge of the law, insurance, governance, and entrepreneurial growth – distinct yet dynamically interconnected fields of endeavor – enhances WHC’s ability to provide healthcare industry clients with unparalleled insight and advice, and to serve the greater good.
