BioNJ has announced that William H. Lewis, J.D., MBA, chair and CEO of Insmed, will receive the with Dr. Sol J. Barer Award for Vision, Innovation and Leadership at the organization’s Annual Dinner Meeting and Innovation Celebration to be held Feb. 8 at the Hilton East Brunswick.
Named for Dr. Sol J. Barer, founder and former chairman and CEO of Celgene Corporation and former BioNJ chairman, the Dr. Sol J. Barer Award recognizes outstanding researchers and business leaders who have made significant contributions to the growth and prosperity of the life sciences industry in New Jersey and throughout the world.

Often pioneering the way for others to follow, Lewis is dedicated to bringing new, innovative therapies to patients while ensuring they have access to the medicines they need when they need them.”
Lewis joined Insmed in 2012 as president and CEO and as a member of the Board of Directors. He became chair of the Board in November 2018. He is the former co-founder, president and chief financial officer of Aegerion Pharmaceuticals. Prior to Aegerion, he spent more than a decade in investment banking in the US and Europe. He also previously worked for the US government.
Lewis has successfully led Insmed in its mission to transform the lives of patients with serious and rare diseases. A mentor and motivator, his leadership goes far beyond the boardroom ― inspiring employees, colleagues and peers to reach their full potential.
Lewis also led the launch of BioNJ’s Health Equity in Clinical Trials Strategic Initiative while serving as Board Chair from 2020-2022.
