Buzz Aldrin Visits Newly Renovated OB/GYN Department at HackensackUMC Mountainside

Buzz Aldrin, one of first men to walk on the moon, visits HackensackUMC Mountainside Hospital where he was born 86 years ago. Aldrin toured the newly renovated OB/GYN department, where a major capital improvement project has recently been completed.

John Fromhold, CEO of HackensackUMC Mountainside Hospital, said of the visit, “We are proud that hometown hero Buzz Aldrin was born right here at Mountainside Hospital. His journey from Mountainside to the Moon and back is a moving testament to the potential of every baby that starts their future here.”

The capital improvements made to the OB/GYN department at HackensackUMC Mountainside Hospital represent the institution’s continuing commitment to provide the highest level of health care to patients and their families. The department has been redesigned to include private, spa-inspired rooms, upgraded facilities, fresh a la carte meals and an overall enhanced experience for expectant mothers and their families.

Buzz Aldrin was born at Mountainside Hospital on January 20, 1930. The future astronaut was raised in the community and educated in the Montclair Public Schools. His visit to the OB/GYN department coincides with HackensackUMC Mountainside Hospital’s lead sponsorship for the dedication of Buzz Aldrin Middle School. The hospital has committed $10,000 to underwrite the cost of renaming Mount Hebron Middle School. HackensackUMC Mountainside Hospital will work in partnership with the Montclair School District to create a Buzz Aldrin STEM education program that will highlight the relationship between technology and medicine.
