Acting Governor Guadagno Leads Red Tape Review Commission Public Meeting

Acting Governor Kim Guadagno convened the bipartisan Red Tape Review Commission (RTRC) to hear public testimony on a variety of regulatory and legislative issues impacting New Jersey businesses and residents including managed long term care services, the Business Employment Incentive Program, and home health aide licensure. The meeting was held at the Rutgers University School of Law, in Camden.

“The efforts of this bipartisan Commission have cleared the way for more efficiency in how businesses and organizations within New Jersey operate,” said Acting Governor Guadagno. “This has been accomplished by reducing burdensome, confusing, and often unnecessary regulations, without sacrificing important oversight measures. This helps New Jersey to remain competitive by allowing businesses to grow and prosper in the Garden State.”

Prior to taking public testimony on this range of issues, the Commission heard from Steve Lee, Acting Director of the Division of Consumer Affairs, on reforms to the nurses’ licensing process. As a result, in the first two-week period after implementing those initiatives in August 2015, licenses were issued to 833 RN and LPNs who passed the NCLEX, nearly double the number licensed during that time period the prior year.

Also, Lt. Colonel Edward Croot, Battalion Commander of the US Army’s Mid-Atlantic Recruiting Battalion, testified in front of the Red Tape Review Commission to discuss recruitment in New Jersey.  Lt. Colonel Croot stated that his mission is to make the State and its schools a welcoming environment for recruiters from all branches of the United States Armed Forces to have authentic and honest conversations with young people about a career in the military.

In addition to the Acting Governor, the Red Tape Review Commission’s members include Senator Steven Oroho, Senator Robert Gordon, Assemblyman John Burzichelli, Assemblyman Scott Rumana, Somerset County Freeholder Brian D. Levine, John Galandak, Tony Monteiro, and Kimberly Gillespie.
