Main Street NJ: Sparta

Fifty miles from Times Square, Sparta has a picturesque downtown. It boasts 11 private lake communities, the largest of which is Lake Mohawk, which has its boardwalk and plaza listed on the New Jersey and National Registers of Historic Places. Iron, zinc and limestone supported a mining industry in Sparta for more than 100 years, but today the mining operations have ceased and the township is now a residential community served by retail, professional, and service small businesses.

Did you know: The German Christmas Market, or “Weihnachtsmarkt,” is so popular that the event had to be moved to the Sussex county fairgrounds.
