NJHA Names Karen Ali as General Counsel

The New Jersey Hospital Association has named Karen S. Ali, Esq., as its general counsel, NJHA president and CEO Betsy Ryan announced.

As general counsel, Ali will provide direction on all legal matters to NJHA and its affiliates, including matters of corporate law, health law and litigation.

“This is a ‘welcome back’ hire for us, and I couldn’t be more pleased,” said Ryan. “Karen’s wealth of experience in issues such as compliance and diversity, along with her understanding of the role of an association and the special issues we face, are a real asset to NJHA.”

Ali started her NJHA career in 1999 as a temporary, part-time attorney and was hired as assistant in-house counsel in April 2000. She went on to become compliance officer, acting general counsel and vice president of compliance and regulatory affairs.

She previously served as director of diversity for the law firm Pepper Hamilton LLP.

A native of Hampton, Va., Ali earned her bachelors’ degree in Sociology, magna cum laude, from Princeton University and her juris doctor degree from the University of Michigan Law School. She has bar admissions to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia; New York and Virginia. She resides in Princeton Junction with her spouse, Deighton Weekes, and son, Justin.
