Manufacturing is a sprawling industry filled with unassuming small businesses that play a vital role in the nation’s economy. Their criticality was proven during the COVID-19 pandemic. Acting fast, New Jersey’s 11,000 small, medium, and massive manufacturing entities leaped into action. Deemed essential by the state, many of these businesses retooled and pivoted their business to manufacture critical Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), lifesaving ventilators, and developing the best defense we have against the virus, a vaccine. Manufacturing Day 2021 is the perfect excuse to celebrate the industry over a year after the pandemic.

Manufacturing Day is observed on the first Friday of October. It is a nationally recognized celebration with the goal of breaking down outdated manufacturing misconceptions. The industry has come so far from the dark, dirty, and dangerous image it still holds in the public eye. Businesses all over the country celebrate by gathering to learn and improve, inviting students, parents, and teachers to tour their facilities, or connecting with the local community and spreading the word about their contributions.

New Jersey celebrates this day together. The New Jersey Manufacturing Extension Program, Inc. (NJMEP) hosts ‘MADE in New Jersey’ Manufacturing Day. ‘MADE in New Jersey’ Manufacturing Day is comprised of keynote speeches by thought-leaders like Paul Hudson, CEO, Sanofi, networking, break-out sessions on industry-critical topics, food, drinks, and more. This year the ‘Manufacturing Awards’ are back after celebrating all the ‘Manufacturing Heroes’ in 2020. All the finalists can be found at NJMEP.org/mfgday21.

On Oct. 1, the industry comes together at The Marigold, in Somerset, for New Jersey’s largest manufacturing networking event of the year. Thanks to sponsors like NJBIA and dozens of other supporters, the industry will take one step forward to gather and grow together. Manufacturing must be recognized and this October, the opportunity is here.
