Combating Cancer 2017

Cancer is among the most loathed scourges to affect humankind, and in New Jersey it has resulted in an estimated 51,680 new cases and approximately 15,880 deaths in 2017 alone, according to the American Cancer Society. If there is a silver lining to these sobering statistics, it may be that effective cancer treatments are at a historical apex, resulting, in part, from unprecedented scientific and technological advancements. While the cancer-combating journey can always be improved, it is notable that cancer deaths have declined by approximately 25 percent over the past few decades.

Against this backdrop, New Jersey Business magazine examines how the state’s healthcare facilities, biotechnology firms, pharmaceutical companies and research institutions are committed to combating cancer. New Jersey has always been at the forefront of innovation and medicine – and this is especially valid in the anti-cancer arena.
