IBEW Local 102 continues to open eyes around the state of New Jersey. As proud as we are of a 114-year history, our business-minded vision for labor in New Jersey is what we focus on. The ability to market highly trained electricians, a dedication to understanding the needs of the business community and a willingness to be adaptive in our ever-changing marketplace; these are values that have changed the way New Jersey views our organization.

Local 102 began serving the construction needs of New Jersey in 1900. Our business, in the beginning, was primarily building and maintenance work in Paterson, our nation’s oldest industrial city, and the adjacent areas along the Passaic River corridor. Over time, a small group of electricians merged with several others from northern New Jersey to form what has become our local today. We are part of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, which services all of America and Canada.

We pride ourselves in delivering to our employers and end users the best electrical craftsman available. We perform over four-million-man hours of electrical and communications work per year in retail, commercial and industrial applications. We have streamlined our work rules to become as flexible as possible to further meet our customers’ needs. We are a 3,500-member temporary employment agency that services 300 electrical contractors. We are a human resources outsourcing company managing our own self-insured healthcare, as well as both defined-benefit and contribution plans.

We operate our own 15,000-square-foot training center, and all of our electricians go through mandatory re-training every three years. They are also OSHA30 certified. We are proud to partner with Union County College where all new apprentices now receive an Associate’s Degree upon completion of their apprenticeship. We recently developed a computer lab and are training in C.A.D. (computer aided design) and BIM (building imaging modeling). From our humble roots wiring factories near the Great Falls in Paterson, we have evolved into a high-tech modern business. Local 102 is the state’s leading installer of solar projects. We are currently building many data centers and offer competitive programs for data center maintenance.
