In five short years, Cape May Brewing Company (CMBC) has grown from three people brewing one beer in a 1,500-square-foot space to a company with 47 full-time employees brewing some 150 different beers and occupying more than 20,000 square feet at Cape May Airport. The company is a pioneer in sustainable brewing practices, sourcing local ingredients whenever possible, especially from South Jersey. CMBC’s Honey Porter, in fact, is the first certified Jersey Fresh beer in the state. The company was started with an initial $25,000 investment and, at that time, consisted of a single 12-gallon brewing system. Since then, it has reinvested its profits back into the company. CMBC’s current brewhouse (the fifth upgrade in four years) is a three-vessel, 30-barrel system. The company can now brew as much as 120 barrels per week. It also has a state-of-the-art bottling system and a new 2,500-square-foot cooler that is regulated at 35 degrees. Its location also offers a new sour brewery, an expanded tasting room and a gift shop, dubbed “The Brewtique.”

PyroSense Technologies (PST), which started operations in June 2014, manufactures a wide range of sensors for all industries, but concentrates on the power, oil and gas, chemical and transportation markets. All sensors are made to customer requirements and exclusively with American-based components. The company generated income of $100,000 in its first six months, and continued success enabled PST to create a holding company – PyroSense Group, LLC – that purchased the assets of PYCO Inc., a Pennsylvania-based temperature sensor manufacturer that was founded in the 1950s. The company changed its name from PST to PYCO to build upon the latter company’s legacy. With 30 full-time employees, PYCO’s client based includes such companies as PSE&G, General Electric, Siemens and DuPont. With the industry somewhat fragmented, PYCO’s plan is to acquire more companies, allowing it to offer a wider array of superior products and better customer services.
