President’s Letter

Cathy Bennett

Cathy Bennett, President and CEO

The New Jersey Hospital Association and its healthcare members marked a century of NJHA service in 2018. Now we’re focused on thinking big about what the next century of healthcare will look like in New Jersey. For a state that stood out as a bold creator of healthcare solutions – the humane treatment for the mentally ill; diagnosis-related groups as the basis for a national payment system; quality improvement leadership on a national scale – what will the next bold solution be?

That is the challenge we face as a community of healthcare providers. NJHA’s mission is to improve the health of the people of New Jersey. Fulfilling that mission requires every one of our 107 hospitals and more than 300 post-acute members collaborating with non-traditional partners to address health and well-being where our residents live, work and play. Learn more about this new direction in population health – and the wonderful community partnerships already under way – in the Social Determinants article in the pages that follow.

We know that population health provides a foundation for good health before a baby even enters this world – with safe communities, healthy parents and access to pre-natal care. This has been an important public health priority for First Lady Tammy Murphy and the N.J. Department of Health. We are committed to being part of that work, starting with the New Jersey Perinatal Quality Collaborative; don’t miss “One State, One Goal” to learn more about this effort.

We are grateful for each and every healthcare member that has embraced the changes and the challenges in healthcare today. But we know we can’t do it alone. Together with other healthcare stakeholders, community partners and those disrupters entering the healthcare space, we’re poised to take another big leap forward in providing the best care possible to the people of New Jersey.

In good health,

Cathy Bennett, President and CEO, New Jersey Hospital Association
