XCEL Federal Credit Union is entering our 51^st year of business. For 51 years, we’ve been helping people stretch their paychecks and live a better life. Much has changed since our inception, but our mission statement remains the same, “To be the primary financial institution for members by providing the highest quality, affordable products and services, delivered with honesty and integrity, in a convenient and secure manner, for generations to come.” These are the words we live by.

Our employees are empowered to make decisions on the spot as long as they can tie that decision back to this mission statement. As long as they think things through and remember that we are here to serve our members, they can’t get in trouble. Our members appreciate the quick response they get, and our employees know that we trust them. It really works out best for everyone.

At XCEL, we are a little more relaxed and casual. We want our employees to understand how things work and why we do what we do. Our communication is pretty clear most times and easily understood. We were the Credit Union of the Year nationally because of our coworkers. That is a major award and we were told that we were the first New Jersey credit union to win it. It really says a lot about our people here. We are very proud of each and every one of them.

And one last note. We were headquartered in the World Trade Center on 9/11, but now we call New Jersey our home. But if there could be a silver lining to that tragedy, it’s that we learned to count on each other. We realized the value each person brings to table. We treasure diversity. We appreciate each other every single day.
