Michael J. Van Wagner is the Vice President of Public Affairs for NJM Insurance Group, the largest property/casualty insurer in New Jersey, and a company recognized throughout the region for its outstanding service to policyholders. NJM is one of the State’s leading writers of personal auto and homeowners insurance and the largest writer of workers’ compensation insurance. NJM reached a rare milestone in 2013 when it celebrated its 100th anniversary.

As a company that operates in a mutual fashion, NJM has paid dividends to policyholders – not stockholders – for 96 consecutive years, for a total of over $5.5 billion. As the State’s 67th largest employer, NJM employs approximately 2,500 people with offices in West Trenton, Parsippany and Hammonton.

A 31-year veteran of NJM, Mr. Van Wagner has served in a number of roles including leadership positions in Underwriting, Corporate Reinsurance and Legislative Affairs. In May 2012, he took an 18-month leave of absence from NJM to serve as Executive Director of the State’s Business Action Center (BAC), one of the four entities that make up New Jersey’s Partnership for Action, the State’s award-winning economic development agency led by Lieutenant Governor Kim Guadagno. While at the BAC, Mike oversaw a veteran team of economic development professionals focused on helping companies stay, grow, or locate in New Jersey.

Upon returning to NJM in November 2013, Mike was named VP of Public Affairs and is now responsible for the Company’s Corporate Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Corporate Giving, and Legislative Affairs efforts.

Mike also oversees the Company’s public safety initiatives, which include a Teen Driver Safety Program that was developed to help build awareness about the dangers of distracted driving among high school students throughout the Garden State.
