Destination Maternity’s relocation from Philadelphia to 1000 John Galt Way in Florence Township was largely the result of the New Jersey Economic Development Authority’s (NJEDA) Grow New Jersey Assistance Program, whose charge includes attracting new businesses and jobs from outside the state. But it also resulted from – and couldn’t have been accomplished without – the unbeatable combination of an outstanding site and builder/developer, Whitesell Construction Co., Inc., to realize the build-to-suit plan.

Destination Maternity selected the 51-acre 1000 John Galt Way site at Whitesell’s meticulously maintained and thoughtfully landscaped Haines Center because of its strategic location at Exit 6 of the New Jersey Turnpike and the Pennsylvania Turnpike connector, less than an hour’s drive to the New Jersey and Philadelphia ports – both of which enhance the retailer’s ability to reach its huge consumer marketplace in a timely manner. It is also located in a Florence Township Redevelopment Zone. For its employees, the Haines Center is within walking distance of the NJ TRANSIT River LINE’s Florence station.

Whitesell, its contractors and township planning officials worked tirelessly to deliver this LEED Silver-compliant project on schedule. Notable building system features include tilt-up concrete panel construction, a white thermoplastic roof, 4000 amp electric service, fluorescent high bay lighting fixtures with motion sensors, an ESFR fire suppression system, upgraded warehouse insulation, LED site lights, high-efficiency HVAC equipment and a central computer controlled HVAC management system, bicycle storage and changing rooms, low-volume water closets, and special parking for low emitting and fuel efficient vehicles.

Completed in December 2014, the 406,375-square-foot, $25-million project employed approximated 225 people during the development stage. Since opening, 250 new full-time jobs have been created to operate what is now a state-of-the-art distribution center for Destination Maternity, with greater space and new material handling equipment to increase capacity and efficiency.
