50 years ago, three young patent attorneys – Larry Lerner, Sid David, and Joe Littenberg – came together in Newark, New Jersey to found the original firm of “Lerner, David & Littenberg.” While each had a different background and unique skills, they shared a passion to practice what was then known simply as “Patent Law” – better known today as “Intellectual Property Law” – at a level that surpassed the quality then provided to clients by city firms. Not long after, the firm moved to the sleepy New Jersey suburb of Westfield, where Arnie Krumholz and Bill Mentlik, two other young attorneys who shared the passion and vision of the original founders, joined. Thus, Lerner, David, Littenberg, Krumholz & Mentlik, LLP was born – a pure IP boutique, which continues to prosper.
Lerner David has flourished, revealing its sophistication in a string of historic high-profile wins in the IP world, including vindication of the Gordon Gould’s L.A.S.E.R invention. The firm continues to thrive as a stand-alone IP firm based not only on reputation, but in its ability to exhibit a steady hand in the confusing and complex world of IP. Despite its humble roots, Lerner David now serves a diverse client base around the world, from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies, providing valuable global IP strategies. With offices in Japan and China, Lerner David assists clients at the forefront of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), protecting groundbreaking technologies from AI to 3D printing; renewable energy to autonomous vehicles; FinTech to telecommunications; pharmaceuticals to life-saving medical therapies.
