Rutgers University-Camden Nursing and Science Building

Enhancing Healthcare in Camden

The Rutgers University-Camden Nursing and Science Building represents far more than classrooms and laboratories for Rutgers students and faculty. It signals the first step in solidifying Camden’s rising reputation as a global center for innovation in healthcare and the biosciences.

The striking, $62.5-million, 106,735-square-foot, four-story building includes an immersive learning classroom, patient simulation labs and physics laser research labs where Rutgers undergraduate and graduate students engage in learning experiences with Rutgers’ world-class research faculty in state-of-the-art classrooms and clinical and research lab spaces.

Located immediately adjacent to City Hall, the Rutgers Nursing and Science Building is redefining the Camden skyline and is the first major component of a new “eds and meds” corridor connecting Rutgers’ traditional campus footprint with Cooper University Hospital and the Cooper Medical School. It also allows Rutgers to more readily engage with Cooper and the Coriell Institute for Medical Research for student internships, career opportunities, and research endeavors.

Further, as more than a thousand students each day walk the two blocks from the Cooper campus to the Nursing and Science Building, they are becoming engaged members of the neighborhood and are stimulating retail activity and economic growth in the city.

Rutgers University-Camden has a well-deserved national reputation as a leader in civic engagement, and the siting of the Nursing and Science Building in the heart of Camden brings those community service programs to the city’s residents and is helping to draw more students and employees into Camden.

The complex was financed through New Jersey’s 2012 Building Our Future Bond Act in support of strengthening New Jersey’s higher education system. The facility employs approximately 100 employees, while 500 construction jobs were created during buildout.
