Children Center Debuts in Deptford

Until the construction of the state-of-the-art Nemours duPont Pediatric outpatient facility in Deptford, local children had to be taken to either Philadelphia or Delaware for the same care. Today, Deptford is home to specialized pediatric care for all of Southern New Jersey. Providing the highest quality of pediatric care in New Jersey to Deptford also has brought a new level of prestige to the township and opened the door for more planned medical uses in the township.

The 65,000-square-foot pediatric care center is a much-needed facility for the region and is unique in its design and function. It handles 29 different pediatric care specialties and is the only one of its kind with an adjustable depth therapy pool. The facility includes an indoor therapy gym and an outdoor therapy playground, two operating rooms and 10 specialized recovery rooms.

The building is architecturally impressive from the outside, as it is on the inside. With its open, sun-filled interior space, the facility is designed to integrate into the environment and is a nurturing atmosphere for children and their families. The landscape design protected the surrounding wetlands and forests and features native plant species.

Additionally, Nemours duPont Pediatrics has contributed significant economic benefits to the community. It created more than 100 well-paying jobs in Deptford and brought more people to the township who shop at the Deptford Mall (just a quarter-mile away from the center) and at other retail facilities, and stay at area hotels and dine at local restaurants.

Even before the facility opened, the Nemours team demonstrated a commitment to being good neighbors by participating in numerous charitable events and community activities. Further, in its site planning, Nemours connected its front sidewalk to the adjacent Locust Grove neighborhood – a walkway which eventually will provide pedestrians and bikers with direct access to the entire nearby Deptford Mall area.
