Walmart Gives $8.6 million to New Jersey Charities

As part of their mission to use their strengths to make a difference, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation announce they have donated $8.6 million in cash and in-kind contributions to non-profit organizations in New Jersey during FY18. Walmart is uniquely positioned to support organizations that create opportunities so people can live better. These donations support New Jersey programs focused on hunger relief, healthy eating, workforce development and disaster preparedness.

“Walmart has once again made a considerable investment in communities throughout New Jersey,” said John Holub, the president of the New Jersey Retail Merchants Association. “From financial contributions and food donations to local volunteer work, Walmart is a good neighbor for all of us here in New Jersey.”

Specifically, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation are dedicated to the fight against hunger and are determined to help families who need ready access to nutritious food in New Jersey. In New Jersey, Walmart donated more than four million pounds of food to local food banks and hunger relief organizations during FY18, which is the equivalent of 3.4 million meals.*

In addition, Walmart encourages associates to get involved with charitable organizations that matter to them, their families and the communities they serve.

In New Jersey, Walmart associates performed more than 1,400 hours of volunteer service in their communities throughout FY18.

“Walmart is honored to give back locally and make a difference in the communities we serve,” said Glen Spencer, Walmart’s regional general manager. “People often call a local store ‘their Walmart,’ and we truly belief our customers have a special connectedness to where they shop – just as we are deeply connected to the communities we all call ‘ours.’”

The Walmart Foundation supports organizations by awarding grants that have a long-lasting, positive impact on communities across the U.S. In addition, Walmart U.S. stores, clubs and distribution centers award cash grants to support local nonprofits. The Walmart Foundation also provides funds for equipment, trucks and logistical expertise to support non-profit organizations extend their reach and impact and help those in need.
