Valley Health Presents Expansion Plans for Paramus Hospital

Executives from Valley Health System recently attended the Paramus Planning Board meeting to present conceptual plans for the expansion of The Valley Hospital in Paramus. The proposed plans include the addition of a new patient care wing, which would add approximately 100 licensed beds to the hospital, together with a new parking structure designed to support future patient, visitor, and staff demand.

Valley has seen record growth since relocating The Valley Hospital to Paramus in 2024, driven by both demographic trends and patients choosing Valley for their healthcare. Locally, demand for healthcare continues to grow as the population ages, chronic conditions become more prevalent, and advances in medicine enable earlier diagnosis and treatment.

At The Valley Hospital, these trends are measurable, evidenced by 2025 volume and inpatient services, some of the highest seen throughout the hospital’s 75-year history.

In 2025, the hospital reported:

  • 4,459 babies born, a milestone year for births with reported 14.2% growth since 2024;
  • 31,991 hospital admissions, a 6.1% increase since 2024; and
  • 81,664 emergency department visits, a 4.3% increase since 2024.

“The continued growth in patient demand at Valley reflects the trust our communities place in us and reinforces the need to plan thoughtfully for the future,” said Robert Brenner, MD, MMM, FACHE, president and chief executive officer for Valley Health System.

The proposed patient care wing would create a dedicated specialty inpatient pavilion designed to support high-demand clinical services. With patient experience a guiding planning principle, the proposed expansion would be integrated into the existing hospital structure and designed to complement the architecture of the facility.

“For 75 years, The Valley Hospital has served the community with a mission to provide high-quality, accessible healthcare. This mission remains unchanged,” said Dr. Brenner. “The concepts presented to the Paramus Planning Board act upon this mission, ensuring that we can continue to accommodate future patient demand while providing our patients with the highest standards of care in a state-of-the-art facility.”

This expansion project is currently in the planning stages and is subject to the completion of design work, regulatory approvals, and municipal review. Construction work has not begun. Pending all necessary reviews, it is anticipated that work can begin in 2027. Valley will continue to work closely with local officials, community stakeholders, and regulatory agencies throughout the review process.
