US Green Building Council New Jersey to Provide Green Building and Sustainability Training Through NJ State Grant

The US Green Building Council New Jersey Chapter (USGBC NJ) has been awarded a grant from the NJ Department of Labor and Workforce Development to provide education for employees of qualifying NJ businesses. The USGBC NJ is accepting applications for fully funded training that will increase expertise in green building and wellness, as well as provide potential credentials and/or CEUs. Classes are scheduled for July 26 and 27, August 16th and 23rd. Others will be scheduled shortly.

USGBC NJ is a State-wide organization of professionals, businesses, innovators and community leaders working to accomplish a bold vision: healthy, green, and energy-efficient buildings and communities for all. Our educational events help keep New Jersey professionals up-to-date on the latest trends in sustainability and LEED.

The USGBC conducted a survey across a range of industries that found that 91% of surveyed employers would recommend the LEED credentialing program to peers, and 71% stated they are likely to require a LEED credential requirement in the future. A LEED credential offers greater job potential and opportunities. As importantly, in the face of SLR, greater storm intensities, and declining drinking water quality and coastal resources, LEED-certified buildings have 34% lower CO2 emissions, consume 25% less energy and 11% less water, and report almost 20% lower maintenance costs. In the United States alone, buildings account for nearly 40% of national CO2 emissions (73% in NYC; 60+% in Philadelphia) and out-consume both the industrial and transportation sectors. According to a Green Building Economic Impact Study recently conducted by USGBC through Booz Allen Hamilton, NJ’s Green Construction contribution to the GDP 2015 to 2018 will be $20.51 B representing 241,000 jobs ($10.95 B from 2011-14).

New Jersey businesses and their employees are invited to take part in this training opportunity! LEED accreditation for your employees will dramatically increase the competitiveness of your business. Regardless of their current level of expertise in sustainability, green building and codes, your employees will benefit from our diverse training offerings.

Training covers the full spectrum of LEED Core Curriculum and Exam Preparation, Corporate Sustainability, Construction/ Trades, and more.
