Unity Bank has broken ground on its new Somerville branch, which is scheduled to open in the fall at 12 Mountain Avenue.
Unity’s first branch in the borough and third in Somerset County is being constructed by Genova Built LLC of Bridgewater. The bank currently has 15 branches, located in Hunterdon, Somerset, Middlesex, Union and Warren counties in New Jersey and Northampton County in Pennsylvania, as well as a loan production office in Bergen County, New Jersey. Unity also is in the process of opening its first full-service branch in Bergen County in Emerson.
Unity has recently begun hiring for the new branch and has named Wendy Ewen of Branchburg to serve as Assistant Vice President/Relationship Manager.
Ewen has more than 15 years of banking experience with regional and community banks and previously worked in the travel and hospitality industry. She is the Treasurer of the Somerville Business & Professional Association. Ewen is a graduate of Morrisville State College, State University of New York where she received an associate’s degree in travel, tourism and hospitality management.
“Wendy has worked in Somerset County and Somerville for the majority of her banking career so we are very fortunate to have her join our team,” said Unity Bank President & CEO James A. Hughes. “As a community bank, we seek employees who show an interest in the communities where our customers live and work so Wendy is the perfect fit for the new Somerville branch.”
