Two North Jersey Businesses Win FedEx Small Business Grant

Two North New Jersey small businesses were recognized during the Fifth Annual FedEx Small Business Grant contest. With participants from nine countries, and more than 1.5 million votes cast, the North Jersey business community is home to two of the contest’s ten winners.

Based in Glen Ridge, Flex Frost Ice Cream will receive a $15,000 grant, plus $5,000 in FedEx Office print and business supplies as a second place winner in the contest. Started in 2014 by Yang Bai, a former college athlete, Flex Frost makes ice cream that serves taste buds, as well as healthy lifestyles. Bai uses hand-sourced ingredients and premium ice cream to help create a high protein snack. His innovation has helped redefine nutrition by turning a sought after snack into a healthy food that’s affordable and accessible.

G. Joannou Cycle, a Northvale-based company that designs bicycles, including Jamis bikes, will also receive a $7,500 grant and $1,000 in FedEx office services.

The FedEx Small Business Grant Contest is an annual contest that offers opportunity for small businesses across the United States to win a grant to help their business grow. This year the contest offered grants and services to 10 small businesses, distributing a collective prize pool of $120,500—the largest sum since the contest’s inception.
