Felician University has unveiled The Felician Advantage, a new online platform designed to give working professionals and those just entering the workforce the opportunity to upskill by taking both short and longer-term courses. The Felician Advantage is fully up and running at The Felician Advantage.
The Felician Advantage offers a vast array of courses in many of today’s most popular upskilling categories, such as Business, Leadership, Marketing, Computer Skills and more. Upskilling in these fields can significantly increase one’s chances of getting hired, receiving a promotion, or securing a pay raise. Statistics on the value of upskilling in today’s workforce are impressive: 76% of employers use skills-based hiring; 56% of businesses have a moderate to severe skills gap; and the average salary increase for upskilled workers is $8,000.
Michael W. Markowitz, PhD., vice president for academic affairs, is spearheading this program, which had been in development for over a year and has the enthusiastic support of Felician President, Dr. Mildred A. Mihlon, who remarked, “I am excited that Felician University is expanding course offerings to satisfy this important demand from professional and adult learners in our region and beyond.”
Dr. Markowitz explains both the value and necessity of The Felician Advantage, “This is a time when higher education and society have gone through significant changes. Institutions need to be nimble, connecting with the needs and wants of those who are seeking to improve their circumstances through education.”
All Felician Advantage courses are online and asynchronous, so they can be accessed whatever time of day is convenient for the learner. Although a standard degree is not required to take the courses, they are stackable, and can count toward a Felician University degree, if desired.
“I want Felician University to be a destination for all different types of learners – traditional undergrads, adult degree completers, and career professionals who need to upskill,” says Dr. Markowitz. “And The Felician Advantage particularly fits well with one of the Core Franciscan Values so integral to the University – the process of transformation, which encourages an open mind and heart leading to continuous improvement of the person. That’s what I believe quality education can and should do.”
