Summit Medical Group MD Anderson Cancer Center Opens in Florham Park

Marking a major milestone in its collaboration with MD Anderson Cancer Center, a global leader in cancer treatment and diagnosis, Summit Medical Group announced the grand opening of Summit Medical Group MD Anderson Cancer Center at 150 Park Avenue in Florham Park. State and local officials, health system and oncology leaders, and community members joined a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the state-of-the-art, 130,000-square-foot outpatient cancer facility, which brings world-renowned treatment protocols, select clinical trials and cutting-edge research to residents of Northern New Jersey and surrounding region.

Summit Medical Group MD Anderson offers a powerful, integrated partnership that features an extraordinary collective of oncology expertise and innovation that will transform cancer care in our community,” said Jeffrey Le Benger, M.D., chairman and chief executive officer of Summit Medical Group.

This new state-of-the-art facility will serve as a bulwark on the frontlines in New Jersey’s fight to end cancer,” said Governor Phil Murphy in a special letter presented at the ceremony.

Committed to bringing the highest level of cancer care in the nation to patients in Northern New Jersey, Summit Medical Group MD Anderson provides comprehensive cancer care, including medical oncology, surgical oncology, radiation oncology, interventional radiology, infusion, imaging and access to clinical trials.

The Latest Technology and Advanced Treatments

Summit Medical Group MD Anderson in Florham Park boasts a newly-minted Imaging Department that features two highly-advanced outpatient Interventional Radiology suites for both cancer-related and non-cancer procedures. The facility’s state-of-the-art, comprehensive diagnostic radiological imaging services include interventional radiology, general x-ray, multi-slice computed tomography (CT), high-field magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), digital diagnostic and screening mammography, ultrasound, positron emission computed tomography (PET-CT) and general nuclear medicine.

New radiation oncology technologies include skin surface brachytherapy, stereotactic body radiotherapy (SABR) and stereotactic radiosurgery. The center also provides a GE SensorySuite to provide an easier mammogram experience, a special procedures suite, and experienced surgeons specializing in gynecologic oncology, breast surgery (including plastics and reconstruction), colorectal, surgical oncology, thoracic oncology, head and neck surgery, urology and Mohs micrographic surgery.

The infusion floor includes 28 suites equipped with heated and reclining loungers for patients receiving chemotherapy and other intravenous treatments. The area with plenty of windows and natural light also offers patients scalp cooling technology that may help preserve patients’ hair during chemotherapy, a nutrition station and more. Additionally, the space is designed to facilitate mobility for patients who wish to move about and interact with others while receiving treatment.

A state-of-the-art infusion compounding room is adjacent to the patient care unit ensuring safety in every aspect of infusion and preparation. The center’s infusion compounding room is one of the first in New Jersey to meet the USP 800 requirements that go into effect December 2019. The center also has an on-site laboratory.

Cancer Compassion and Support Services

In addition to providing key medical services, the center is home to a shop featuring specialty apparel and comfort items for cancer patients. A full-service resource center stocked with information and educational materials is staffed by a non-clinical patient navigator to guide patients through information regarding their diagnosis, treatment and recovery process. These additional support services are made possible through Summit Medical Group Foundation.

To build and promote the emotional well-being of patients and their families, Summit Medical Group Foundation also provides complimentary daily lunch, weekly pet therapy and music programs in the atrium.

Summit Medical Group MD Anderson also features a curated art gallery throughout the facility and Wi-Fi connections for its guests. Cannon Design provided architecture and interior design services, working closely with Summit Medical Group MD Anderson to ensure that the communal areas are comfortable, light-filled, inviting and spacious.
