Kyle Sullender, who has been serving as director of economic policy research for the New Jersey Business & Industry Association (NJBIA) and executive director of independent research firm Focus, NJ, has been named director of government and external relations for the HealthCare Institute of New Jersey (HINJ).
“New Jersey’s life sciences are hard at work finding new treatments and cures for some of the world’s most dreaded diseases, and I’m honored to join an organization focused on advancing issues around such critically important efforts,” said Sullender. “The HINJ team is highly respected in Trenton and Washington, and I’m excited to assist their advocacy on behalf of the patient community they serve.”
Chrissy Buteas, HINJ president and CEO, and a former head of government affairs at NJBIA, commented, “I am delighted to welcome Kyle to the HINJ team. His unique insight and experience will strengthen HINJ’s ability to advocate on behalf of patient access and New Jersey’s innovation ecosystem.”
Chris Emigholz, NJBIA chief government affairs officer, commented, “The team at NJBIA is always sad to lose someone as talented as Kyle, and he will be missed. That being said, NJBIA staff are excited to be able to work with him in his new role at HINJ, and we also know that our team will continue his great work at Focus and in the areas of technology and innovation policy.”
Sullender graduated summa cum laude from Rowan University in 2017 with bachelor’s degrees in journalism and philosophy before earning his Master of Public Policy in 2019 from the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers University – New Brunswick. Sullender was a Class of 2019 Graduate Fellow at the Eagleton Institute of Politics and is an active member of the Eagleton Alumni Committee. He currently resides in Cherry Hill with his wife and son.
“Kyle’s strong background and experiences will further enhance HINJ’s capabilities and increase the already significant impact the HINJ team has on behalf of our membership. We’re excited to add him to our stellar team,” Buteas added.
