RWJBarnabas Health Names Senior Vice President, Chief Transformation Officer

RWJBarnabas Health recently announced the appointment of Paul G. Alexander, MD, MPH, as senior vice president, chief transformation officer. Dr. Alexander will be responsible for organizing assets for the largest, most comprehensive academic health care system in New Jersey as it transitions to value-based care. His initial responsibilities include accountable care organization management, the employee health plan and other resources dedicated to building necessary infrastructure.

“As a well-respected physician executive, Dr. Alexander’s expertise is invaluable in our system’s journey toward value-based care,” said John Doll, RWJBarnabas Health chief rinancial officer. “His educational approach to the overall health of our communities will prove very effective and we are fortunate to benefit from his unique insight.”

A seasoned physician executive, Dr. Alexander joins RWJBarnabas Health from Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield New Jersey, where, since 2014, he served as vice president and chief medical officer, Government Programs. In this role, he was accountable for the delivery of quality care and services to more than 900,000 government program members. Prior to Horizon BCBS, he held leadership positions in the life sciences industry at AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals and health insurance providers, including UnitedHealthcare, Health Partners of Philadelphia, and Independence Blue Cross.

Dr. Alexander received his Bachelor of Arts degree from New York University and Master of Public Health from Columbia University. He graduated from the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, completed his residency in emergency medicine at Christiana Care Health System, and fellowships at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and the Leonard Davis Institute at the Wharton School.
