RWJ University Hospital Names New Chief Nursing Officer

Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH), an RWJBarnabas Health facility, has named Courtney Vose, DNP, MBA, senior vice president and chief nursing officer (CNO).

In her new role, Vose is responsible for integration and coordination of nursing practices across all service lines, including operational clinical practice, patient experience, education and research. Her reputation for cultivating a high-performing nursing culture complements the RWJUH reputation for nursing excellence, as one of only seven programs in the world to receive Magnet Nursing Recognition six consecutive times.

“Dr. Vose’s energy and passion for nursing excellence will lift our Magnet nurses even further as we expand on our role as a premier academic medical center,” said Bill Arnold, president and chief executive officer of RWJUH. “Her passion for developing nurse leaders, innovation and dedication to exceptional patient care is what this team needs as we move past the pandemic and continue to elevate the essential role of nursing in integrated health systems.”

RWJUH board of directors Chair Jack Morris adds, “We are confident Dr. Vose will build on the legacy of nursing excellence at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and contribute significantly to the delivery of quality and safety, exceptional patient experience and clinical excellence for our communities.”

Dr. Vose joins RWJUH from New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center, New York Presbyterian/Allen Hospital and New York Presbyterian/Ambulatory Care Network, where she served as Vice President and CNO since 2014. She also spearheaded the Academic Practice Research Fellowship with the Columbia University School of Nursing where she served as Assistant Professor of Clinical Nursing.

Dr. Vose has also held a number of leadership roles at Lehigh Valley Health Network, including Administrator, Patient Care Services and Director, Emergency Services. She started her career as a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department at Temple University Hospital before joining Sacred Heart Hospital in both clinical and leadership roles. After completing her B.S. in nursing at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Vose earned her Master of Science in Nursing/Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner from Temple University. She then received her MBA and Doctorate in Nursing Practice from DeSales University.
