Morristown-based law firm Riker Danzig LLP welcomed three new attorneys; Counsel Jeanmarie Dunn-Kane, who joins the firm’s Corporate and Tax Groups, associate Matthews A. Florez, who joins the Commercial Litigation Group, and associate Amelia Whiting, who joins the Environmental Group.
Corporate and Tax Counsel Jeanmarie Dunn-Kane has experience representing business entities in contractual and transactional matters across both existing and emerging industries. She has played a key role with mergers and acquisitions and advising on commercial contracts and agreements. Dunn-Kane also advises on federal and state securities law compliance regarding private offerings, and prepares offering memorandum. She assists business entities across the full spectrum of the business life cycle, from formation to dissolution, assisting with corporate organization, restructuring, and governance, including equity grants and basic tax implications of the same.
Dunn-Kane received her J.D. from Temple University Beasley School of Law in 2009, where she was the executive editor of the Temple International and Comparative Law Journal. In 2012, she earned her LL.M. in Taxation, also from Temple University Beasley School of Law. Dunn-Kane received her B.A. in 1998 and her M.A. in Political Science in 2000 from American University, where she was a member of Pi Sigma Alpha.
Prior to joining the Firm, Dunn-Kane was an associate at McManimon, Scotland & Baumann LLC.
Commercial Litigation associate Matthews A. Florez has experience drafting pleadings and briefs in a wide variety of commercial litigation matters in state and federal courts in New Jersey and New York. He received his J.D., cum laude, from Rutgers Law School in 2019. While there, Florez was the Commentaries Editor of the Rutgers University Law Review as well as a Teaching Fellow for the Minority Student Program. He received his B.A. in Finance from Rutgers University Business School in 2016.
Following law school, Florez served as a Law Clerk for the Hon. Joseph L. Yannotti, P.J.A.D., New Jersey Superior Court, Appellate Division.
Environmental associate Amelia Whiting provides legal counsel on regulatory and transactional matters, with a particular focus on renewable energy. She is well-versed in energy conservation standards rulemaking, as well as energy efficiency, sustainable transportation, and renewable energy policies.
Prior to joining the Firm, Whiting was an Attorney-Advisor for the U.S. Department of Energy. There, she advised the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy and the Federal Energy Management Program and supported the DOE and DOJ attorneys in defending challenges to DOE rulemakings. In addition, she provided counsel related to DOE’s technical support of the Department of Treasury’s energy-related tax credits.
Whiting received her J.D. from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law in 2019. She received her B.S. from the Pennsylvania State University in 2016.
