Riker Danzig Partner Joseph Schwartz Takes Over as Head of Firm’s Bankruptcy and Reorganization Group

Morristown-based law firm Riker Danzig Scherer Hyland & Perretti LLP announces that Joseph L. Schwartz will take over leadership of its highly-regarded Bankruptcy & Reorganization practice from long-time Chairman of the Department Dennis J. O’Grady.  O’Grady, who has been at the helm of Riker’s bankruptcy group for over 25 years, will continue providing legal counsel and insight as Chairman Emeritus and will remain with the firm as Of Counsel.

Schwartz, a senior partner in the Bankruptcy & Reorganization group, concentrates his practice in all facets of restructuring, insolvency law and complex bankruptcy and commercial litigation.  He is a frequent writer and lecturer on bankruptcy-related topics, is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, serving on various ABI Committees, is a board member of the New Jersey Turnaround Management Association and has for years served as a member of the New Jersey Supreme Court District V-C Ethics Committee.  He leads a team of eight (8) bankruptcy lawyers in the Firm’s New Jersey and New York offices.  He also serves on the Firm’s Management Committee.

Riker Danzig’s Bankruptcy & Reorganization group is recognized on a national platform for its bankruptcy litigation, corporate reorganization, real estate restructurings and insolvency proceedings.  It has played a major role in several recent large bankruptcy proceedings, including Hanjin Shipping, St. Michael’s Medical Center, RadioShack, Madoff, Lehman Brothers, G-I Holdings, and Bayonne Medical Center.  The Firm’s Bankruptcy Group has historically played significant roles in many well-known bankruptcies.
