Red Cross Desperately in Need of Blood Donations

The American Red Cross is facing a severe blood shortage due to an unprecedented number of blood drive cancellations during the coronavirus outbreak, and is seeking healthy individuals to schedule appointments and give blood in the days and weeks ahead.

Through March 22, 70 New Jersey blood drives have been canceled, resulting in 5,913 fewer blood donations. Nationally, more than 6,000 blood drives have been canceled, resulting in about 200,000 fewer blood donations

For those interested in assisting, it is recommended that you follow the American Red Cross NJ Region on FacebookTwitter and Instagram and share information.

Post a call-to-action on your social media channels using the attached social media graphics. Here are some sample posts to consider.

As a nation, this is a time where we must take care of one another including those most vulnerable among us. The American Red Cross is reporting a severe blood shortage due to coronavirus-related blood drive cancelations. More than 600 blood drives have been canceled nationwide, resulting in about 200,000 fewer donations. Please, share your good health! If you are healthy and feeling well, please make an appointment to donate this week by using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).

*Please be patient when making an appointment. As this important message is getting out and more people are making appointments, you may experience a longer than usual wait time. New blood drives are being added daily, if you do not find a drive in your area today, please check again in the near future.
