NJTIA Announces Name Change as Part of a Rebranding Initiative

The New Jersey Travel Industry Association, the state’s largest organization representing the travel and tourism industries, will change its name effective August 1, 2014 to the New Jersey Tourism Industry Association (NJTIA).

The announcement of the name change was made Wednesday, July 23, by NJTIA President Sharon Franz and Executive Director Joseph A. Simonetta, CAE.

“The Executive Board agreed that to continue positioning New Jersey as a premier tourist destination, we needed a slight name change,” said Franz, the Sales & Marketing Director at Steel Pier in Atlantic City.

“NJTIA’s mission remains the same: advocating for public policies that encourage the growth and development of New Jersey’s travel and tourism industry,” she said. “We are still the ‘Voice of the Tourism Industry’ in this state.”

“The travel and tourism industry employs over 500,000 people in New Jersey,” said Simonetta. “It only makes sense to make sure we’ve branded ourselves correctly to properly represent that population.”

NJTIA was established in 1984 and is comprised of associations, businesses, industries, resorts, attractions, destination marketing organizations, transportation companies, cultural arts and historic organizations. The association fosters economic development, generates revenues, creates jobs, and is the leading voice for promoting the knowledge and understanding that travel and tourism – a sector essential to the economy, the image and the quality of life of New Jersey.

“This industry is inextricably intertwined with the health of the state,” Simonetta said. “We’ve been successful in promoting it, and this name change will only assist in our continuous efforts.”
