NJBankers Supports Women Small Business Owners at Annual Event

The New Jersey Bankers Association (NJBankers) partnered with the New Jersey Small Business Development Centers (NJSBDC) to host several women small business owners at the Association’s annual Women in Banking Conference on June 5 at The Palace at Somerset Park.

“Although called Women in Banking, the topics discussed at our conference really pertain to any woman in the business world, and we wanted to share this knowledge with local small business owners,” said Jenn Zorn, NJBankers executive vice president/education and business development. “We want to lift women up and create a community where we celebrate each other’s successes and empower the next generation of women in leadership.”

Speakers at the event discussed the economic outlook, advocating for and supporting fellow women in the workplace, mentoring and building a professional network, and how to elevate your career and reach your goals. The NJSBDC attendees were also able to network with the over 400 attendees from state banks present at the conference.

Dr. Jackeline Mejias-Fuertes, regional director of the NJSBDC at Brookdale Community College, attended the event along with small business owners. She called the event “extremely motivating for women,” and gained valuable insights into what we all can do to empower women, walking away with actionable items to impart in the workplace.

“I enjoyed the message of bringing others up with us – we rise by lifting others,” Dr. Mejias-Fuertes said. “We want to make sure we have a pipeline behind us. Lifting women up is part of the fabric of who I am.”
