NJ Non-Profits receive $500K-Plus From Walmart Foundation

In the second cycle of their yearly grant-giving, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation have given more than $500,000 to non-profit organizations in New Jersey. The Walmart Foundation’s State Giving Program supports charities and organizations that create opportunities so that people in their community can live more healthily and happily. Applications for the fourth cycle of grant-giving are being accepted until September 2. During the past fiscal year, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation gave more than $7,000,000 in cash and in-kind contributions to nonprofit organizations and programs in New Jersey.

Nonprofit organizations that received grants during this cycle are:

  • American National Red Cross – $40,000
  • City Green Inc. – $40,000
  • Community Personnel Services, Inc. – $40,000
  • Community Soup Kitchen and Outreach Center Inc. – $42,000
  • Fairleigh Dickinson University – $48,000
  • Goodwill Industries of Southern New Jersey – $50,000
  • Institute for Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities Inc. – $110,000
  • New Jersey Chamber of Commerce Foundation – $50,000
  • Princeton Outreach Projects, Inc. – $50,000
  • Puerto Rican Unity for Progress – $55,000

Jennifer Hoehn, Walmart’s director of public affairs and government relations for New Jersey, said, “The Walmart Foundation understands that organizations like those receiving grants are essential to building stronger communities. Our hope is that those in need of support will be empowered through these donations.”

The State Giving Program invests in all 50 states, Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico. The Walmart Foundation has a State Advisory Council in each state, made up of Walmart associates representing local communities. All states have two application cycles annually.

To be considered for support, prospective grantee organizations must submit applications through the Walmart Foundation State Giving Program’s online grant application.  Applicants must have a current 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status in order to meet the program’s minimum eligibility criteria.  Additional information about the program’s funding guidelines and application process are available online at www.walmartfoundation.org/stategiving.
