New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program Receives National Recognition

The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) announces that the Clean Energy Program will receive the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 2015 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award for its continued leadership in protecting the environment through superior energy efficiency programming. The 2015 Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Awards are given to a select group of organizations that have exhibited outstanding leadership year after year. These winners have reduced greenhouse gas emissions by setting and achieving aggressive goals, and employing innovative energy efficiency approaches.

The BPU will be honored for its commitment to energy efficiency in Washington, D.C. on April 20, 2015, specifically for the accomplishments of the residential energy efficiency products rebate program. “Through their sustained participation with ENERGY STAR, the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities and its Clean Energy Program is helping Americans save money, save energy, and do their part to reduce our nation’s greenhouse gas emissions that fuel climate change,” said EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy. “I applaud the BPU for earning EPA’s highest ENERGY STAR award, the 2015 Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award, demonstrating a strong commitment to energy efficiency and to preserving a healthy planet for future generations.”

“New Jersey is proud to receive national recognition for its efforts to promote energy efficiency solutions for our residents while making their homes more comfortable and safe,” said BPU President Richard Mroz. “The Christie Administration’s Energy Master Plan has made energy efficiency and conservation a priority, and this award recognizes the positive impacts these policies have had on residents, businesses and the environment.”

NJBPU has been an ENERGY STAR partner since 2001.  In 2014, 2013 and 2012, NJBPU also received the ENERGY STAR Sustained Excellence Award for Home Performance with ENERGY STAR.  In 2011, NJBPU was honored with the award for delivery of its New Jersey ENERGY STAR Homes Program.

The energy efficiency products program provides discounted lighting products sold at local retailers and rebates ranging between $50 and $300 for purchasing new ENERGY STAR certified dryers, washers and refrigerators.  The program also offers a $50 rebate for recycling functioning refrigerators or freezers.

New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program provides financial and other incentives to the state’s residential customers, businesses and local governments that install high-efficiency or renewable energy technologies. These programs are administered by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities.
