Marriott Foundation Establishes Scholarship at FDU

The J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation has awarded a scholarship of $150,000 to Fairleigh Dickinson University’s International School of Hospitality and Tourism Management.

The scholarship, to be called the J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation Designated Scholarship, will be for deserving undergraduate students majoring in Hotel and Restaurant Management.

“We are extremely grateful to the J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation for their generosity to the Petrocelli College, International School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at FDU,” said Joseph Tormey, director of the International School of Hospitality and Tourism Management. “The Marriott scholarships will make a huge difference in the lives of many deserving students. The faculty and staff are honored that the Marriott Foundation is supporting our premier hospitality program. This gift represents an investment in young professionals who will soon assume tomorrow’s leadership roles in the greater hospitality community.”

The J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation was established in 1965 with the purpose of giving back to the community. Under the current direction of J.W. Marriott, Jr. and Richard E. Marriott, the Marriott Foundation is dedicated to helping youth secure a promising future, especially through education on the secondary and higher education levels, mentoring and youth leadership programs. Equally important are organizations that help provide relief from hunger and disasters; support people with disabilities; and create gainful employment opportunities for vulnerable youth and adults.
