Margie Piliere to Join Choose New Jersey

Choose New Jersey’s President & CEO Michele Brown announces that Margie Piliere will join the organization as chief economic development officer. Piliere is currently the director of business banking and community development at the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (EDA), which along with the Business Action Center and Office of Secretary of Higher Education, makes up the Partnership for Action. Piliere will join Choose New Jersey in early July.

“Having known Margie for nearly three years during my tenure at EDA and with Choose New Jersey, I am more than confident that her ‘can do’ attitude, dynamic professionalism and deal-closing abilities are a perfect fit for Choose New Jersey,” said Brown. “Her long-term working relationships with the members of the PFA will only serve to strengthen the Partnership’s efforts and her experience in urban redevelopment, and relationships with local leaders will be an incredible asset to our team as Choose New Jersey refocuses efforts to grow business in our cities.”

“I am very excited to join the Choose New Jersey team and to work with businesses and our partners in the communities to attract jobs and investment to New Jersey,” said Piliere. “There are tremendous opportunities and benefits to being located in the Garden State, including our strategic location, excellent higher education institutions and access to a trained and educated workforce. I look forward to building new partnerships to strengthen our economy and encouraging businesses to locate and stay here in New Jersey.”

Through Piliere’s 26 years in economic development at the EDA, she has overseen the application intake for numerous loan and incentive programs, managed tax incentive programs, clean energy initiatives, small business funding and technical assistance, as well as brownfields programs. Recently, she oversaw the outreach and assistance to urban aid communities including the Garden State Growth Zones as part of the Economic Opportunity Act.

Prior to serving as EDA’s director of business banking and community development, Piliere served as the regional director of business banking and community development for the North Jersey region and as the assistant director of lending services for the EDA.

In her current role at EDA, since 2013, Piliere has overseen the advancement of approximately 398 EDA project approvals for $5.5 billion in Authority Assistance, involving the creation of 27,974 new jobs and 37,377 construction jobs for NJEDA programs and 136 project approvals for $89.6 million regarding Sandy Disaster Assistance Programs.
