Maillard Named Chair of the R&D Council of NJ Board of Directors

The Research & Development Council of New Jersey (Council) announced that Virginie Maillard, head of global research in simulation and digital twin and head of research in the US for Siemens Foundational Technologies, has been appointed as chair of the Council’s Board of Directors.

Maillard brings extensive leadership experience in research and innovation, guiding Siemens’ technology strategy across the US. As Chair, she will spearhead the Council’s mission to advance collaboration among New Jersey’s research institutions, and strengthen STEM education initiatives.

“New Jersey is home to world-class innovation, and I look forward to working with the Council to drive technological advancements and support the next generation of STEM leaders,” said Maillard. “By fostering collaboration between industry, academia, and government, we can further strengthen the state’s research ecosystem and fuel breakthroughs that shape the future.”

As head of global research in simulation and digital twin for Siemens Foundational Technologies, Virginie Maillard leads teams across Germany, India and China from the R&D office in Princeton. She has also served as the head of research for the US since May 2019 and is responsible for the entire scope of research in the United States. Prior to joining Siemens, Maillard worked for the automobile manufacturer Renault, most recently as head of corporate research and central research strategy. She currently serves as the president of the Scientific Advisory Board of Institute Mines-Telecom (IMT) in Paris, France, the biggest group of graduate engineering schools in France.

Maillard has served as the Council’s vice president since 2021. She will continue to serve with Executive Board members Council Secretary Ian Davies, Ph.D. of Princeton University and Council Treasurer Jeffrey Stokes of PSEG.

The Council’s Board of Directors is made up of representatives from New Jersey’s industry, academic and government research organizations including: Avantor Performance Materials, BASF, Bristol Myers Squibb, Casabona Ventures, Coriell Institute of Medical Research, Hackensack Meridian Health, Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine, Kean University, Lexicon Pharmaceuticals, Liberty Science Center, Merck & Co., Montclair State University, MTF Biologics, New Jersey Commission on Science, Innovation and Technology, New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development, New Jersey Economic Development Authority, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Nokia Bell Labs, Novartis, Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory, Princeton University, PSEG, Rutgers University, Rowan University, Siemens Technology, Stevens Institute of Technology, Stryker, Stockton University, Tech Council Ventures, Tech United: New Jersey, and U.S. Army Devcom Armaments Center.
