Lyft Selects 3 Organizations as Recipients of Local Grants Program

Lyft announced over 40 cities will start to award Lyft ride grants to nonprofits on a quarterly basis to help bridge transportation gaps for individuals and families.

Lyft’s local grants initiative was developed in 2018 to help Lyft identify and connect with some of New Jersey’s hardest working organizations. Lyft announced that in New Jersey, the following organizations will be awarded to help further their outstanding causes, including bettering the lives of those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, improving access to healthcare for the underserved and providing young adults throughout the state who have been through New Jersey’s foster care system the resources they need.

  • Best Buddies International, the world’s largest organization dedicated to ending the social, physical and economic isolation of the 200 million people with intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Roots & Wings, an organization providing young adults who age out of New Jersey’s foster care system safe housing, case management, education, counseling and life skills, in order to empower them toward self-sufficiency
  • Summit Medical Group Foundation, committed to improving access to healthcare for underserved individuals throughout New Jersey, educating and inspiring future healthcare providers and promoting the courage, confidence and emotional well-being of individuals facing cancer and their families

“Lyft is proud to be able to partner with these three organizations who are already working on issues that matter most to New Jersey, like access to healthcare and helping the state’s most vulnerable populations,” said Eric Plummer, Lyft’s New Jersey General Manager. “We look forward to supporting these hard-working organizations who want to take their efforts even further and to help them provide access to reliable and affordable transportation.”

Nonprofits will be awarded grants on a quarterly basis, with recipients determined by a local committee made up of Lyft employees and representatives from the Driver Advisory Council. Any 501(c)3 organization that operates in the New Jersey metro area is eligible to apply for a grant.

Lyft’s local grants is just one of many initiatives and a part of our commitment to deploy 1% of profits or $50 million every year (whichever is greater) to help make our cities more livable for everyone. We’re focused on a variety of programs from providing access for underserved communities to groceries, jobs and more, to supercharging the growing civic movement in major cities by donating transportation to grassroots civic organizations, building transportation infrastructure in neighborhoods that need better connections to the rest of the city, and working with local groups to build toward a clean energy future.
