Kyle Nelson Named CEO and Chairman at Altair Health

Altair Health is a new healthcare system devoted to comprehensive spine care

New Jersey-based Altair Health, one of the nation’s first physician-managed healthcare systems devoted to comprehensive spine care, has named Kyle W. D. Nelson, MBA, a healthcare industry expert, as its chief executive officer.

Nelson, who started his career in banking, has a successful track record of building and managing orthopedic practices and healthcare consulting companies.

“In 2002, while I was serving as an Assistant vice president of client services at Wells Fargo Corporate Trust, I donated a kidney to my dad,” Nelson explains. “As I recuperated in the hospital for seven days, I saw the inner workings of our healthcare system and decided I want to dedicate my career to enhancing the patient experience and outcomes.”

Since then, Nelson has served in many chief executive officer roles in his home state of Minnesota; an orthopedic group Colorado Springs, CO; and an orthopedic clinic in Phoenix, AZ. Most recently, he was president and chief executive officer of his own healthcare consulting practice where he provided C-suite expertise to numerous organizations.

Altair Health’s focus on experiences and outcomes appealed to Nelson.

“Healthcare today is about creating patient experiences, not just providing services,” Nelson details. “To achieve this, healthcare providers must offer an expanded suite of services through vertical integration of care. Altair Health’s goal is to create a destination for comprehensive spine care, which is why we have brought together a team of experts from numerous specialties – including neurosurgeons, physical therapists, pain management specialists, physiatrists, acupuncturists, wellness specialists and more – within one integrated healthcare system. Together, this team manages each patient’s care from start to finish.”

Additionally, the Altair Health team uses data from numerous registries, including the National Neurosurgical Quality Outcomes Database that measures the quality and efficacy of common spinal and neurosurgical procedures. This nationally gathered data helps the team determine the right treatment for the right patient at the right time to get the best outcomes.

“I’m proud to work with the talented physicians from Atlantic NeuroSurgical Specialists, New Jersey’s largest neurosurgical practice and one of the most advanced in the country, to achieve Altair Health’s vision,” Nelson concludes. “We are committed to delivering best-in-class patient experiences and outcomes.”

Altair Health recently opened two new facilities. Altair Health Morristown is a 10,000-square-foot medical center that directly connects doctors’ offices to a physical therapy and wellness center, creating the area’s first true collaboration of specialists dedicated to treating spine conditions all under one roof. Altair Health Surgery Center is a 16,000-square-foot surgery center dedicated to outpatient spine surgery and pain management procedures.
