Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation Partners with Allendale Community for Senior Living

The Allendale Community Rehabilitation Center partners with Kessler.Core and has opened a newly expanded and updated post-acute rehabilitation center. Kessler.Core, in affiliation with the world-renowned Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation, West Orange, provides on-site skilled therapists offering a full range of inpatient services including acute orthopedic and neurological rehabilitation as well as ground-breaking physical, occupational and speech therapies.

The new 2,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art Allendale Community Rehabilitation Center will help seamlessly transition clients from the hospital back to their home environment following an injury, medical event, surgery or illness. It is one of the first rehabilitation facilities in Bergen County to offer the Kessler.Core program.

“We are thrilled to announce our new alliance with Kessler.Core,” said Dr. Timothy Giancarlo, president of The Allendale Community. “Our vision for this partnership was to bring a world-class rehabilitation center to serve residents in the area. Kessler.Core is a recognized industry leader that shares Allendale’s commitment to provide quality programs and help clients achieve their maximum potential. We are excited to integrate this advanced model into our newly expanded rehabilitation services.”

Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation – based in West Orange – is ranked as one of the top two rehabilitation hospitals in the country for 2014-2015, and as the leading facility of its kind in New Jersey and the greater New York metropolitan region by U.S. News & World Report, according to Lea Columbus, SLP, Regional Director, Select Medical Rehabilitation Services/Kessler.Core.

“Kessler.Core employs some of the most skilled and experienced therapists in the world, delivering the finest rehabilitation programs available today,” said Columbus. “The Allendale Community Rehabilitation Center is a very unique facility with a leading edge physical therapy space. We are very excited about this new partnership and look forward to using our broad array of resources to help the Allendale Community achieve its long-term goals.”

New Treatment Modalities Benefit Clients

The expanded Allendale Community Rehabilitation Center is focused exclusively on helping clients aged 18 and over bridge the gap between hospital and home. The comprehensive renovation was designed to modernize the 60-bed center and enable the highest level of care. It encompasses numerous aesthetic enhancements along with the addition of the latest physical therapy equipment available.

Treatment modalities include “Wii-Hab” games to build arm strength, improve range of motion and enhance hand-eye coordination; NuStep recumbent cross trainers for strength building and cardiovascular fitness; SCIFIT equipment to help clients progress through cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation; whirlpool therapies; and ergometers to improve upper-body conditioning.

A dedicated multi-disciplinary medical team includes physiatrists, therapists, nurses, social workers and patient care specialists. These professionals work with each client’s physician and family to develop individualized care plans focused on restoring health, confidence and independence. Clients benefit from the Allendale Community’s spacious private and semi-private rooms, restaurant-style dining with chef-prepared meals suitable for all dietary requirements, and individual and group leisure activities designed to complement clients’ scheduled rehabilitation sessions. Care is provided 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Therapies Incorporate Skills to Help Clients Return Home Faster

“When people are discharged from the hospital, they often need a variety of rehabilitation services to restore their functional mobility before they can return home. Within the Allendale Community’s supportive and dynamic care environment, Kessler.Core’s rehabilitation team will create a comprehensive plan tailored to each client’s unique needs and goals, allowing them to focus on restoring their health while maximizing their confidence and independence,” said Dr. Giancarlo.

The Allendale Community Rehabilitation Center’s services also include a site visit and evaluation of a client’s home environment prior to discharge. This assessment helps identify areas that may require adjustment, such as bringing in adaptive equipment, and recognizing parts of the home that may pose a fall risk.

The Allendale Community for Senior Living and Rehabilitation Center is located at 85 State Highway 17 South in Allendale.
